Education and Training Documentary for Boy Scouts of America
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly…. When the Capitol Area Council of the Boy Scouts wanted a Boy Scout Law documentary, we suggested that Scouts themselves would be the best people to explore what the virtues mean in practice. We interviewed and selected a group of young Scouts interested in filmmaking, and mentored them through the process of this production as they found and profiled people in their community who live and practice the values of Scouting.
Each of the twelve values of Scouting is profiled in individual segments that can be used by troop leaders as the focal point for discussion or as a catalyst for further activity. The full program also includes an introduction overview and favorites of the Scout crew’s out-takes in the credit roll. Arrowhead Films also wrote and produced an activity guide to accompany the film.
This is a great example of a curriculum-based educational program that can be easily adapted by the instructional leader to be used online, in the classroom or in a group setting because it was edited to be adaptable to either feature-length or segment-based viewing.
